It is a challenge to photograph the woodland warblers. They migrate immense distances so they can only be seen in finite “windows” of opportunity. They are birds of the forest by and large so foliage represents a challenge. In addition they are small and move around quickly, seldom resting in one location for more than a few seconds. They also change plumage throughout the year and often the spring plumage is very different from the autumn plumage. Spring is generally the best time for warbler photography as the plumage is at its most brilliant, the birds are singing vociferously (unlike autumn), and in some cases you have an opportunity to see them before the foliage is too extensive. Point Pelee, Rondeau, Long Point, Maumee Bay and the Magee Marsh, all on Lake Erie are amongst the best locations for finding warblers during the spring migration.
